The overwhelming theme of the season for the men's second team has been "Too much choice". All of the players from last year's team returned, but with the success of the ladies Olympic team came an influx of new players of mixed abilities. At one stage as captain I had 26 players on the books.
Focus this year has been on developing new players and closing the gap between the two men's teams. At the time of writing, with two games to play, we are sitting second, unbeaten since Xmas.
We are hopeful we will maintain this position, and with SOHL changing the league format, this suggests we will progress to SOHL 3 next season. Top scorer at this stage is Tony Baldwin, and key players have been Dave Skingley and Keeper Gary Roberts, although it is the teamwork that has brought success.
Next season will see the formation of a men's third team, allowing more people to get more pitch time.
Note: Guildford still have matches to play, but the M2s are currently in third place and are guaranteed a fourth place finish.
