Having previously lost 4:2 earlier in the season to Sanderstead, Horley were hoping to break their winning streak.
Horley gave the better performance for the first half and attacked with a number of well linked offensive plays. Christ Stevens, Tom Ross and centre half Jon Thompson all came close to taking a lead for Horley and forcing saves from the Sanderstead keeper. Meanwhile at the other end of the pitch the Horley defence was working tirelessly to deny the league leaders a goal and both teams headed into half-time without scoring.
Sanderstead had the best of the second half forcing numerous athletic saves from the Horley keeper, Chris White including one from a penalty flick awarded after an infringement on the line. Sanderstead eventually managed to break the deadlock after a spell of immense pressure, scoring against the battle weary Horley defense.
Horley responded positively and raised their game, continuing to trouble the Sanderstead defence, but failing to convert any chances that came. With the clock running down, Sanderstead slowed the pace of the game and managed to hold out for a 1-0 win. Despite the loss, Holrey left the pitch with their heads held high after a close run battle.
